Manual Therapy

At Worthing Osteopathic & Wellbeing Clinic, our Manual Therapy services utilise a comprehensive approach to treat and manage musculoskeletal injuries across the body. By transitioning from sports massage to the more inclusive practice of sports therapy, we cater to a broader range of needs, extending our services to all individuals—not just athletes. Our therapists, whom we refer to as manual therapists, employ a diverse array of treatment modalities to enhance patient outcomes significantly.

What is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy encompasses advanced techniques including but not limited to sports massage, mobilisations, dry needling, and cupping. These methods are skilfully combined to alleviate pain, enhance range of motion, and improve flexibility. Each treatment plan is meticulously tailored to the individual, focusing on not only immediate relief from conditions such as back pain and muscle strains but also on long-term rehabilitation and injury prevention.

The Evolution from Sports Massage to Sports Therapy

Our clinic has evolved from offering traditional sports massage to providing the specialised skills of sports therapists to ensure a comprehensive treatment scope. While sports massage primarily focuses on relieving muscle tension and promoting relaxation, sports therapy offers a broader clinical approach—including injury prevention, rehabilitation, and conditioning. This transition allows us to address the root causes of pain and dysfunction, ensuring a more sustainable recovery.

Sports Therapists vs. Sports Massage
Therapists: Understanding the Difference

  • Sports Massage Therapists focus on the manipulation of soft tissues to alleviate stress and muscle tension, ideal for general relaxation and minor muscle complaints.
  • Sports Therapists possess extensive training in the science of movement and pain management. They utilise a variety of techniques to treat acute and chronic injuries, facilitate rehabilitation, and implement preventive measures against future injuries. Their clinical approach is suited for individuals of all activity levels, helping to restore function and enhance overall physical performance.

Benefits of Manual Therapy

  • Relieves joint and muscle pain
  • Reduces stress and alleviates chronic pain conditions
  • Enhances posture, muscle flexibility, and circulation
  • Promotes injury recovery and prevents future injuries
  • Assists in the removal of metabolic waste and remodels scar tissue
  • Prepares individuals for events such as marathons and triathlons
  • Treats common ailments like back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and more

Rehabilitation Services

Using key principles of sports rehabilitation, our clinic focuses on comprehensive recovery strategies. These include pain management, strength and endurance training, core stability enhancement, and flexibility exercises. Our approach goes beyond treating symptoms by addressing predisposing factors that contribute to recurring injuries. We provide a supportive recovery environment, working collaboratively with osteopaths and sports therapists to tailor each rehabilitation plan.

Our Studio: A Space for Supported Recovery

Our studio offers a unique environment for rehabilitation, allowing for personalised instruction in small group settings. This approach ensures correct form and maximises the effectiveness of each session. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels—from beginners managing back pain to athletes recovering from sports injuries—our studio is designed to support and guide each individual through their recovery journey.
