The Alexander Technique
Jacqui Moorhouse
For over 25 years, Jacqui has experienced for herself the many health and wellbeing benefits of learning the Alexander Technique. Initially she just loved the feeling of being lighter, freer and more evenly balanced after a lesson. But she soon realised its potential as a practical and highly effective life-long skill you can use by yourself to help make any activity easier, from getting in and out of a chair, to pregnancy, and even singing!
Eventually she decided to do the 3-year, full-time training course at the Brighton Alexander Technique College to become a fully qualified Alexander Technique teacher. Now teaching, and seeing its impact on clients, the Alexander Technique still never fails to fascinate and surprise her. It has become an integral part of her life and she is always looking to develop further her Alexander Technique knowledge and skills.
Jacqui has a background in education and training and continues to work with local businesses as a trainer and facilitator alongside her Alexander Technique teaching. She is a registered member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT), fully insured and DBS checked.
Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique helps you re-educate your neuromuscular system to release unwanted habitual tension so that you can learn to move with greater ease and perform to your best ability in everything you do.
An Alexander Technique teacher works 1:1, using gentle, hands-on guidance to help you recognise and change unhelpful habits of postural and muscular tension, so you can experience moving more freely and with less strain. It is a safe, practical and holistic approach to self-care that anyone can learn and benefit from, whatever your starting point.
Learning the Alexander Technique gives you lifelong tools to help yourself:
- improve balance and coordination
- reduce unnecessary tension and strain
- relieve pain and stress
- enhance overall wellbeing
Areas where it can be particularly beneficial include:
- Managing back, neck and joint pain*
- Working on computers/laptops
- Exercise and sports
- Pregnancy
- Stress management
- Public speaking and presentations
- Performance (actors, singers, musicians, dancers)
*Clinical research trials have shown that having Alexander Technique lessons leads to a significant long-term reduction in back and neck pain.
