Effective Osteopathy Treatment in Worthing

What to expect in an Osteopathic Consultation

All osteopathic treatment should start by taking a case history. This is to find out what is wrong. It generally lasts 10-15mins and will involve questions not only about where the pain is but also how it started and what it feels like and the things that make it better and worse.

You may be asked to undress down to your underwear. Depending on where your pain is, you may only need to take off the top or bottom part of your clothes. If you prefer not to remove any clothing then please tell us, and you may leave them on, but they need to be thin, such as tracksuit bottoms or shorts and t-shirt or vest top.

The reason osteopaths prefer to ask people to undress down to their underwear is so we can observe the area of pain more closely. We also look for things like swelling and bruising and assess people’s posture. Less clothing also makes it easier to treat you. I will do some tests to try and determine what is wrong and then explain to you what I have found and what I want to do.

The treatment will generally involve some pulling and pushing (gentle or hard depending on the person) of the affected area to get the joints moving properly. There is normally some soft tissue work involved to loosen up the muscles and then if necessary and only with your consent we may carry out a manipulation (click) or two. We also quite often do some very gentle work (cranio-sacral) where you will hardly feel anything happening. The cranial osteopathy can be used on anyone, but is always used when treating babies. We generally explain what we’re doing at the time.

Occasionally an acupuncture needle is put into a muscle or joint but only with your permission.

The treatment consists of a lot more but this is a general overview. At the end of the treatment I will give you some advice on exercises you can do to help yourself and advice on whether to use hot or cold packs.

Worthing Back Pain Treatment

We treat a wide range of conditions with prompt, reliable and professional service.

Osteopathy is an established recognised system of diagnosis and treatment, which lays its main emphasis on the structural and functional integrity of the body. It is distinguished by the fact that it recognises that much of the pain and disability, which we suffer, stems from abnormalities in the function of the body’s structure as well as damage caused to it by disease.

Both structural and cranial osteopathy can be used to treat a variety of conditions.

Whole experience, on contacting the clinic and being assessed by Rosie, 5 star. Friendly and efficient reception, clinic comfortable and has own parking, Rosie quickly identified my problem and after just one visit I feel much better. My treatment plan was agreed and I was given some exercise to help which were emailed and downloadable in a free app. Super happy!

Callum was very sympathetic to my problems with Peripheral Neuropathy and shoulder/neck pains. He made extensive notes and recommended a course of treatments to help my mobility problems and eased my immediate pains with a neck and shoulder massage.

A really friendly, helpful clinic. I have seen Luke for treatment and was really pleased with the results. I didn't feel rushed at all; he took time to fully assess what was needed and listen to my concerns and carefully explained the treatment. Highly recommended.
